Taking time out for enjoyable activities

Sometimes doing something that makes you feel good is the best way to distract yourself from negative emotions. But remember, you don’t have to wait until you feel overwhelmed by negative emotions in order to do one of these activities. It’s also helpful to engage in these types of activities on a regular basis. In fact, you should try to do something pleasurable every day. Exercise is also especially important because not only is it good for your overall physical health but it’s also been shown to be an effective treatment for depression in some cases (Babyak et al., 2000). Plus, exercise makes you feel good almost immediately by releasing natural painkillers in your body called endorphins. Here are some examples of enjoyable activities you can try:

1.       Talk to a friend on the telephone.

2.       Go out and visit a friend.

3.       Go for a walk with a friend

4.       Invite a friend to come to your home.
